The Beloved Pistachio Donut.

I'll start this post off by stating the obvious: Yes, I am allergic to nuts. My name is Amie and I am Nut-Free. There you go. Lucky for me, there are no nuts involved in the topic of this very post...but before I get into that, let me take you to the beginning because the beginning is the best place to start (usually).

A long, long time ago, in a cute little Cape Cod house in a cute little neighborhood in the cute little town of Colchester, Vermont, this beautiful "holiday" was created called Donut Day. Donut Day was the creation of my then-firefighter father. He would work 24-48 hour shifts and make sure to bring home a dozen Dunkin Donuts on whichever weekend day he came home from work. My 2 sisters and I would look forward to the moment he walked in the door - not only for the delicious donuts, but also for the family time together after he had been away at work.

Now, one of the most requested and savored donuts on Donut Day was the Pistachio Donut. As I said, this donut did not have any nuts in it, rather it was made with some sort of artificial flavor (which, as far as I know had no likeness to a real pistachio - kinda like almond flavoring I'm guessing?). The lightly glazed cake donut was dark Hulk-like green on the outside only to be split in half to reveal a beautiful flourescent green interior. It was delicious! And bright green! And because of this, we all would gladly put our Boston Cremes aside in order to enjoy the Pistachio whenever it was available.

Now that's the problem. It wasn't part of their regular line-up, so it wasn't always that we got to enjoy one. And now I don't even think it's part of Dunkin Donuts' history. I swear it has been erased as I can barely find a trace of it on the internet. Isn't everything supposed to be online?! Are we the only family that enjoyed this peculiar (but yummy) treat? Does anyone else remember it?

I have become a bit desparate for the Pistachio donut as of late and therefore have been bugging them (@DunkinDonuts) on Twitter every so often. No responses so far (though I did think that "Bring Back the Pistachio Donut for St. Patrick's Day Cuz It's Green" was a great tweet, nonetheless useless) but maybe, just maybe if I bug them enough they will bring it back! Dont'cha think? And if you remember it too, please help. I promise, it will be worth it.

I am so glad to know that others remember this lovely piece of history too. Wonder if maybe it was an East Coast thing?
