to have a dog. I have been bugging Jay since I can remember about getting a puppy. They are so cute, cuddly, fun to take walks with, and just plain fun. Ha! I had the pleasure of dogsitting for some friends this weekend. I was thrilled- I considered it "Rent-a-Puppy" - I could just borrow him for the weekend and get my fix.
Let's just say that my feelings toward getting a puppy changed quickly. Corona is a cute puppy - about 5-6 month old golden retreiver (my favorite). He has a nice spacious townhome, a big crate, and lots of nice grass to pee and poop on outside (and that's a rare thing in Arizona where the ground is mostly covered with dirt/rocks).
We had a great time, played ball and took walks. The only thing I thought was odd was that over the course of the whole day Saturday, he didn't poop - and I took him out pretty much every hour. Well, turns out he preferes pooping INSIDE. I guess carpet is more desirable than grass? I was lugging a vacuum/carpet cleaner thing up and down 2 flights of stairs all night - (he thought that each floor deserved a taste).
Yesterday was similar. He did give me the pleasure of pooping outside - only after the cops came because I had accidentally set off the security alarm at the house...twice. As I was chatting with the cops (of course 2 cars had to come - out here they don't go anywhere without backup) Corona desides to pop a squat right in front of them. Fabulous.
I think the icing on the cake (ha ha) was this morning though. Even after the hearty poops outside yesterday, I woke up to some nice pancake sized poops mashed into Corona's bed. Along with pee all over the crate as well. Of course, I had showered last night to give myself time to sleep in, so I was pressed for time. I had to clean it all up, put his blanket in the laundry and get to work in a matter of 30 minutes. Fun stuff for a Monday morning.
SO, needless to say, I still love dogs. I love the idea of having a dog at some point in the future, and I love watching other people with their cute little dogs when I go hiking. But I am not ready for a dog of my own. I'll start with something a bit more manageable - like a pretty little plant or something. (No offense, Corona).
