Hello Peaches!

Jay and I went peach picking on Saturday! We went to Schnepf Farms in Queen Creek - check 'em out - I believe their website is www.schnepffarms.com. It was a beautiful drive out to the farmland east of Phoenix. We got up early to make it there before the heat did...got there around 9:00. The line for the pancake breakfast was already said to be an hour and a half long, so we opted for a burrito that we had to wait only a couple minutes for. I was a tad disappointed since the breakfast was supposed to add to the effect of a nice day in the country, but my stomach (actually, Jays) ruled and burritos it was! We then took a walk through the "tasting tent" and tasted an array of peach jams, syrups, and salsas. As the sun continued to rise on this beautiful Saturday, we hitched a hay ride to the orchard. It didn't take us long to pick 18 pounds of the luscious fruit. At around $1/lb - it was a steal!

Just outside of the farm, we stopped at an olive factory that was having their end of season sale. We picked up some delicious garlic infused olive oil as well as some pistachios (Father's Day is coming up), feta-stuffed olives, and delicioius foccacia bread, then headed back to the city!

Needless to say, we have tons of peaches and have been eating them all weekend! I've already made a pie which turned out to be quite a project - peeling peaches is NOT easy! The pie ended up having 1/2 peeled, 1/2 unpeeled fruit which turned out just fine! This morning we made peach pancakes (to make up for the missed breakfast on Saturday) and tonight I just took 2 batches of peach cobbler out of the oven. It smells delicious!! Speaking of which....I'd better go get some (cobbler) before it gets cold!!!

I could certainly take a piece of peach cobbler right about now. Yummy!
