So yesterday I had a minor scare while at work. The main sign that brings my blood pressure sky high is when my head starts itching...I know I had eaten something that I shouldn't have. My chest, back and hands started itching too and my breath began increasing its pace. I know for sure it isn't a seriously strong reaction (i.e. I didn't eat an entire peanut) but I did ingest either a bit of soy protein or some peanut dust that quickly took its toll on my system.
I quickly looked in my purse and was out of my lifeline - Benadryl. So, I took what I thought would be second-best - Claritin. When after 1/2 hour, I felt the same or worse, I decided to seek out my favorite little pink pill. I calmly asked one co-worker if they had any or knew where I could get some and panic set in. "What did you eat?" - "Are you going to be okay?" - "Oh my Gosh -what do we do?!". This is the last thing I wanted to happen though I did appreciate their concern. When someone insisted they take me to the drug store to get my fix of antihistimine, I took them up on their offer. As we approached the Allergy/Sinus area, I grabbed the box & took 2 pills immediately. Then a deep breath. I had known I was going to be fine, but now I could relax. We made it back to work (after a call from work to make sure we were okay) and got through the last hour of the day.
The hard part was getting home and this is where the equation comes in. I was sooooo out of it. I just wanted to curl up and take a nap, but instead drove 13 miles home in Friday-before-holiday traffic. Thankfully, I made it home safely, but do realize now that I should have asked for a ride. It is just not worth it.

Scary!! I recently developed an Almond (sometimes - not when they are cooked) and raw fruit and veggie allergy. As in Apples and Strawberries. AHHHH!!! My mouth swells, throat itches, etc. Horrible. I think it's all related to a recent, Alaska birch tree allergy development. Now, any birch tree-family tree a bee pollinated a fruit or veggie from, I get a reacation. Time to see an allergist. No human being can live long w/o eating raw veggies and fruit. Jeez Louis!
Allergies are worst, but more so when it does more than make you itch, but affects your breathing and puts a scare in you. Stay away from those nuts!!
