Another day at the office...

As most of you know, I have been selected as a juror on an expected 8 day trial here in Phoenix. Today was day #5 of the trial (not including the first day of jury selection) and I am starting to feel like a day in court is a normal day in the office for me. I now get my morning "hello" from the security guards at the door each morning and have enjoyable lunches outside with my fellow jurors. It is an exciting life, something different from my normal routine. I look forward to learning new things about the trial each day.

The jury room is quite a site. On day #1 we all found a comfortable chair around a long conference room-type table in a white room with no windows. As of tonight, it has now accrued several snacks that people have brought in to share (one being nuts which is literally driving me crazy though hasn't caused any allergy problems), brownies, and of course at this time of the year, girl scout cookies. In addition to these yummies, a jigsaw puzzle and its pieces is scattered across the middle. One of the girls who has served before suggested she bring one in to give us something to do while talking about the case. We look forward to our morning and afternoon breaks rushing in and putting a few pieces together. We are all hoping to get it completed before the last day, and so far feel that we are on track! I have now also decided that a trip to Target is in this weekend's plans in order for me to get one of my own for our kitchen table!

Aahhh, a day in the life of a juror! As much as it has been a bit complicated with being out of the "real office", etc., it makes me proud to be an American and happy to learn about the judicial system.

Sounds like a really good experience! It's nice to have a break from the ordinary.
