My favorite sign of springtime in Arizona is the sweet scent of orange blossoms in the air. You walk outside into the warm sunny day and the smell is just edible. Sweet, flowery, and just begging to be bottled up and stored for later indulgence. It is a very short timeframe that this can be enjoyed, so I savor it as much as possible – driving to and from work with the windows open.

Another favorite sign of spring is the flowering bougainvillea. Our neighborhood is filled with it – climbing up trellises and along the streets. This bright – almost fluorescent flower ends up all over the streets and sidewalks like “helicopters” or pine needles do back home in Vermont. Petals follow you inside and sneak behind doors and under cabinets until they are swept away. I never mind finding a petal here and there to remind me of the paradise-like weather I get to enjoy here in Phoenix .
This is the time to enjoy the birds song as you wake each morning, the snow starting to melt (eventually - for those of you in VT), and for the excitement and adventures that summer always promises.
