About a year and a half ago, my mom mentioned to me that there was a Vermont Sandwich Company opening up in Scottsdale. She worked with a woman who's sons opened the store. It's not the Vermont Sandwich chain in Vermont that we are so familiar with, but a stand-alone shop here in the desert. I was excited, but knew that with their location being a good hour or so from where I live, it would be only if we were in that area already that I'd be able to check it out.
Fast forward to my new job. I now work just a few miles from the shop! I stopped in there last week to check it out and was pleasantly surprised. Decorated with Grateful Dead posters (of course), VT license plates, and colorful pots of silk flowers on each table, it made me feel right at home. The menu features items named after VT landmarks such as "The Bove" - an antipasto salad named after Boves - a frequented Italian restaurant in downtown Burlington. I had "The Vermonter" - a classic VT sandwich of maple smoked turkey, ham, thinly sliced granny smith apples, and cheddar cheese. Delicious...and not something that you can easily find here in AZ. Most sandwiches here feature the California-inspired avocado which I do love, but can get old after a while.
Scottsdale's Vermont Sandwich Company will now be on my go-to list for delicious affordable lunches from here on out. And when I am feeling a bit homesick, I may just stop in to soak up the atmosphere.

OMG - YUMMO (stealing from Rachael Ray).
We ate VSC for lunch the Friday before your wedding and I agree - quite a good sandwich! Can you talk them into a KC branch? :)
