Identity Theft Scare...

So I got a letter in the mail from the company that manages my retirement funds. My agent's (who happens to be a friend from college) laptop computer got stolen from his car in Vermont. This laptop happened to have 116+ client's information in it, including mine. This information, though "doubly password-protected" as they say, contains my address, birth date, and social security number. Great.

No matter how hard you try to protect yourself - shredding mail, changing passwords, etc... - there is always something like this that can happen that can, and will, put you on high alert like it has me.

The company is now giving me a free year of credit monitoring - which is nice, but I personally think that I should get more than that for the fear that they have now instilled in me for the safety of my identity, my credit, and my future.

Be careful out there...
