A headline on CNN.com today caught my eye reading "Death By Peanuts". This article talks about a new thing called "Worry Free Dinners" where restaurants in New York cater specifically to those with food allergies each month. People are able to go to a restaurant and order anything off the menu without having to worry about what it contains.
There is a serious need for more education on these deadly allergies as they become mysteriously more and more common. Peanut free baseball is another allergy-free event that I've stumbled across this year as the world has started understanding the needs of us allergy-sufferers.
Growing up, I was the only person I knew with a peanut and tree nut (and now soy as well) allergy. People, including teachers, did not understand the severity of it. There were no nut-free classrooms or tables in the lunch room as there are today. I know of fairly recent restrictions on what foods parents can send their kids to school with and have heard fuss from many that don't understand...that is until they talk with someone like me who has lived in fear of exposure since I was a little girl.
Until there is a "cure" for severe food allergies, I am hoping that more events like Worry Free Dinners and Peanut Free Baseball start to be more common across the nation (and maybe here in Phoenix so I can participate!!!).
I've added a few new favorite websites to my sidebar that help educate those that are not affected and and provide for those that are (in the form of nut-free treats).

Scary thing being a mom with little or no info on these allergies. It scares me how much you were exposed as a child and how much more I could have done have I been educated the way moms are today.
